522876.31

John Deere 522876.31 – BLC: CAN BUS Message Cannot Be Received, Information from Implement.

Issue description

The Basic Load Center (BLC) is failing to receive expected CAN BUS communication messages from an attached implement. This is a communication timeout or data interruption on the implement CAN BUS network.

Applies to these machines

  • 6110R
  • 6120R
  • 6130R
  • 6145R
  • 6155R
  • 6175R
  • 6195R
  • 6215R
  • 6090MC
  • 6090RC
  • 6100MC
  • 6100RC
  • 6110MC
  • 6110RC

Check the cause

  1. Check BUS Utilization in the Diagnostics Center on the tractor's display (45% or higher indicates network overload).

  2. Unplug the implement from the rear ISOBUS connector to isolate it; if BUS utilization drops to normal, the fault is in the implement's wiring or ECU.

  3. Inspect the tractor's rear implement CAN BUS connector receptacle for dirt, moisture, or corroded pins.

  4. Measure CAN High and CAN Low voltages at the connector using a multimeter (peak voltages should be 1.8 to 3.3 Volts).

  5. With the tractor powered off, measure resistance across the CAN High and CAN Low pins (should be approximately 60 ohms; 120 ohms indicates a missing or broken terminating resistor).

Repair steps

  1. Clean and Reconnect

Thoroughly clean the implement connector receptacle on the tractor and the plug on the implement with electrical contact cleaner. Reconnect and clear the codes.

  2. Inspect Tractor Harness

If the code persists without the implement connected, trace the CAN BUS wiring harness from the rear ISOBUS connector to the BLC module. Look for chafed wires, pinches, or shorts to ground on the CAN High (usually yellow) and CAN Low (usually green) wires. Repair any damaged sections.

  3. Replace Terminating Resistors

If the resistance test yielded 120 ohms or an open circuit, locate and replace the faulty CAN BUS terminating resistor on the implement network.

  4. Software Update

Connect John Deere Service ADVISOR and check for software updates for the BLC module. Sometimes, communication timeout thresholds are patched via software updates.

  5. Replace the BLC

If the wiring harness is perfectly intact, terminating resistors are good, and the implement works flawlessly on another tractor, the BLC module itself has an internal CAN transceiver failure and must be replaced.
