523666.03

John Deere 523666.03 – CCU, CSC, or SFA: Control Software, Supply Voltage (BAT) Too High

Issue description

The code is triggered when the control software detects that the supply voltage at the input of the control unit exceeds 16 Volts. This overvoltage condition typically points to a faulty alternator voltage regulator (overcharging the system) or a short circuit within the wiring harness routing to the module.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect power supply and charging system by testing battery voltage with the engine running (spikes above 15-16V indicate overcharging).

  2. Examine the wiring harness leading to the CCU or CSC for damaged wires, chafing, or signs of a short circuit to a higher voltage source.

  3. Check battery health, terminals, and earth straps, as a heavily degraded battery can cause erratic alternator behavior.

Repair steps

  1. Test the Alternator Output

Start the tractor and measure the voltage at the battery terminals. If the reading exceeds 15 Volts, the voltage regulator has failed.

  2. Replace the Alternator / Regulator

Depending on the alternator model, replace either the internal voltage regulator or the entire alternator assembly to restore normal charging voltage (approx. 14V).

  3. Inspect the Harness (If Charging is Normal)

If the alternator output is within normal limits (13.5V - 14.4V), trace the power supply wiring harness to the CCU/CSC module. Look for pinched wires or melted insulation causing a short circuit.

  4. Repair Wiring

Repair or replace any defective wiring or corroded connectors found during the inspection.

  5. Clear Codes and Test

Reconnect all components, clear the 523666.03 fault code using a diagnostic tool, and run the machine to verify the code does not return and the module has regained full functionality.
