John Deere 523666.04 – CCU: Control Software, Supply Voltage (BAT) Too Low
Issue description
Insufficient power supply voltage (BAT). The supply voltage to the module drops below a critical threshold (typically below 9 Volts for main chassis controllers, or below 4.0 VDC at specific connector pins), which can impair or completely halt the functioning of the control software.

Check the cause
Battery & Charging System Check: Verify overall battery health. Ensure the system voltage does not drop below 9V during operation or cranking.
Parasitic Draw Test: Check for an electrical draw with the battery disconnect switch turned off, which can drain the batteries and cause low voltage codes.
Harness & Connector Inspection: Access the CCU and power modules. Disconnect the connectors and visually inspect the pins for corrosion, pushed-back pins, or poor tension.
Continuity & Short Testing: Use a multimeter to ohm the power supply wires between the fuse block, power modules, and the CCU. Look for high resistance or bare wires shorting to the chassis ground.
Fuse Block Check: Test the connectors and terminals directly on the fuse block, as poor connections here are a known cause of this voltage drop.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the battery disconnect switch. If the batteries were drained by a short or parasitic draw, charge them fully and load-test them. Replace if they are frozen or fail the load test.
Access Modules
Remove the necessary cab or chassis covers to access the CCU, power modules, and the main fuse block.
Isolate the Circuit
Disconnect the wiring harness connectors from the CCU and power modules.
Repair Wiring
If the multimeter ohm test reveals a short to ground, trace the harness to find the chafed or bare wire. Repair the wire using OEM-approved splice methods and heat shrink.
Replace Terminals
If the voltage drop is traced to a poor connection at the fuse block or module connector, use a pin removal tool to extract the damaged terminals. Crimp new electrical connector terminals onto the wires and reinsert them into the connector housing.
Reassemble and Test
Reconnect all controllers and power modules. Restore battery power, clear the 523666.04 fault code (and any cascading CAN bus codes), and run the machine to verify the voltage supply remains stable and the code does not return.
