John Deere 523670.02 – AIC (Armrest Interface Control Unit): Speed Control Lever Voltage Out of Range / Speed Band 1 and 2 Switches Conflict

The control module has detected a mismatch between the signals of the switch for speed band 2 and the potentiometer of the speed control lever. When this fault is active, the system disables the ground speed control lever and defaults the transmission to Neutral to prevent unintended movement.

   Power Cycle: Turn the tractor's ignition off, wait a few moments, and turn it back on to see if the system recovers and clears the code.

   Visual Inspection: Inspect the wiring loom and connectors running from the AIC module to the speed control lever potentiometer for any signs of damage, interruptions, or short-circuits.

   Voltage Check: Measure the supply voltage to the ground speed control lever position potentiometer. Depending on the specific system, the expected supply voltage is typically around 8.5 Volts.

   Signal Verification: Check the output signals from the potentiometer. The AIC software expects a specific ratio between the channels (for example, signal 1 and signal 2 are often opposite signals that must add up to a specific reference value, or channel 1 voltage should be double that of channel 2). A deviation indicates a failed potentiometer or wiring issue.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on the electrical system.

   Access the Armrest Controls

   Carefully disassemble the CommandARM™ or armrest console to access the internal components of the speed control lever.

   Test the Potentiometer/Switch

   Using a multimeter, test the resistance and voltage sweeps of the speed control lever potentiometer and the speed band switches.

   Replace the Faulty Component

   If the potentiometer has dead spots or the switch is stuck/failing, replace the speed control lever assembly or the individual potentiometer sensor.

   Reassemble and Reconnect

   Secure the new component, reassemble the armrest console, and reconnect the battery.

   Calibrate the AIC

   After replacing the speed control lever or potentiometer, you must perform a calibration procedure for the AIC/shift lever using a John Deere diagnostic tool (Service ADVISOR) or the tractor's onboard monitor, otherwise, a calibration fault (such as AIC 523671.13) will be triggered.
