John Deere 523693.09 – SCC: Missing SV I (or SCV I) External Control Message for 1 Second

Issue description

This code indicates that the external control message for Selective Control Valve I (SV I / SCV I) has been missing from the CAN Bus network for longer than 1 second. Missing command messages typically originate from the Resume Switch, iTEC™ system, Option Configuration Connector, or attached implements. When this code is detected, the SCC functions will be degraded, impacting the overall performance of the hydraulic SCVs.

Check the cause

  1. Restart the tractor to see if the communication messages reset

  2. Verify the functionality of external control sources like the Resume Switch, iTEC system, Option Configuration Connector, and attached implements

  3. Inspect all wiring and connectors associated with SV I for signs of damage, poor connections, or corrosion

  4. Check for power and ground at the SCV I connector, and inspect the frame connectors behind it for corrosion

  5. Test continuity from the frame connector to the middle connector of the Rear Chassis Controller

  6. Use a diagnostic tool like Service Advisor or Jaltest to monitor communication signals from external control sources to SV I

Repair steps

  1. Address Wiring Faults

If continuity is broken between the SCV I connector, the frame connector, and the SCC middle connector, the issue is likely within the chassis harness. Repair the damaged wire or run a new overlay wire from the controller to the valve.

  2. Temporary Ground Bypass

If the SCV cuts out intermittently, you can attempt a temporary diagnostic solution by adding a ground to the connector from the frame. If it stops cutting out, you have isolated a bad ground in the harness.

  3. Update Firmware/Software

Ensure all relevant components, including the SCC, have the latest firmware and software updates applied via Service Advisor.

  4. Replace the SCC

If the wiring harness tests perfectly (good continuity, power, ground, and CAN lines) and software is up to date, the Rear Chassis Control Unit (SCC) itself has failed internally and must be replaced.
