John Deere 523694.09 – SCC: Missing SCV II (or SV II) External Control Message for 1 Second

Issue description

This is a CAN BUS communication fault indicating that the controller has lost the external control data message for the #2 Selective Control Valve (SCV II) for more than one second. When this happens, the affected SCV will typically cut out or fail to operate.

Applies to these machines

  • 6110R
  • 6120R
  • 6130R
  • 6145R
  • 6155R
  • 6175R

  • 9330
  • 9430
  • 9530

Check the cause

  1. Verify if the code is actively thrown when attempting to operate SCV II.

  2. Disconnect the SCV II connector and test for proper power and ground (if SCV I is also dead, it points heavily to a shared power issue).

  3. Trace the wiring back from the SCV to the frame connectors behind it. Open them and inspect for moisture, bent pins, or corrosion.

  4. Test continuity from the bottom frame connector to the SCV connector, and from the frame connector to the middle connector of the Rear Chassis Controller.

  5. Check the CAN Bus High and Low lines between the SCV and the SCC for open circuits or shorts.

Repair steps

  1. Clean and Reconnect

If corrosion is found in the frame connectors, clean the pins thoroughly with contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease, and reconnect. Clear the codes and test operation.

  2. Repair the Harness

If the continuity test fails between the frame connector and the Rear Chassis Controller, you must either replace the affected section of the rear chassis harness or run a new overlay wire to bypass the break.

  3. Temporary Workaround

If stranded in the field with a power issue, you can temporarily jump power from an unused SCV connector to the SCV II connector. For a ground/CAN issue, adding a direct ground from the frame to the connector can sometimes temporarily restore function if the ground wire is the broken link.

  4. Module Replacement

If the wiring harness tests perfectly (continuity, power, ground, and CAN lines are all intact) and the SCV itself is not internally shorted, the Rear Chassis Control Unit (SCC) has likely failed internally and will need to be replaced and calibrated by a dealer.
