Issue description

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the right draft pin sensor for rubbed-through wires, corrosion, or loose pins that could cause a short to power.

  2. Test the sensor output voltage using a multimeter or John Deere diagnostic software to confirm if the voltage is spiking above the 4.75V threshold.

  3. Isolate the circuit by disconnecting the sensor: if the signal wire voltage drops, the sensor has failed internally. If the voltage remains high with the sensor unplugged, the wiring harness is shorted to power.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

    Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

  2. Locate the Sensor

    Locate the right draft pin sensor on the rear hitch lower link assembly.

  3. Disconnect and Remove

    Unplug the electrical connector from the sensor. Remove the retaining hardware (usually a locking bolt or snap ring) and slide the faulty draft pin sensor out of the hitch linkage.

  4. Wiring Repair

    If diagnostics revealed a short in the harness, repair or splice the damaged section of the wiring before installing a new sensor.

  5. Install New Sensor

    Insert the replacement draft pin sensor into the linkage, secure it with the retaining hardware, and plug in the electrical connector.

  6. Re-calibrate the System

    Reconnect the battery and power on the tractor. Clear the inactive 523703.03 fault code. You must perform a rear hitch calibration procedure using the tractor's command center or diagnostic tool so the HCC/BCU can learn the baseline voltage of the new sensor.

  7. Test

    Operate the rear hitch through its full range of motion to ensure the code does not return.
