523711.02

John Deere 523711.02 – PTD, PTQ, or PTI: Wheel Speed Sensor (Channel 1), Incorrect Speed

Issue description

The control software expects but does not receive the wheel speed signal from channel 1, or there is a speed discrepancy of more than 10 km/h (6.2 mph) compared to the wheel speed sensor on channel 2. When this error is detected, the control software may limit gear selection or disable transmission functions to prevent damage.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wheel speed sensor on channel 1 for any signs of physical damage or disconnection. Ensure that the sensor is properly aligned and securely mounted.

  2. Use a diagnostic tool to monitor and compare the live readings from both wheel speed sensors (Channel 1 and Channel 2) to identify the exact discrepancy.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness and connections leading to the wheel speed sensors for signs of damage, wear, or corrosion.

  4. Verify that the control unit is correctly processing the signals from both sensors.

Repair steps

  1. Harness Repair

If the diagnostic checks reveal damaged wires or corroded connectors, repair or replace the affected sections of the wiring harness.

  2. Sensor Replacement

If the wiring is intact but the channel 1 sensor is providing incorrect readings (or no reading at all), remove and replace the faulty wheel speed sensor.

  3. Software Update

Reprogram or update the control unit (PTD/PTQ) software if necessary, as recommended by OEM guidelines.

  4. System Reset and Monitoring

Cycle the power to the tractor (return the shift lever to Park to attempt vehicle recovery). Clear the fault codes and test drive the machine, monitoring the wheel speed sensors to ensure they are now providing accurate and consistent readings.
