John Deere 523749.31 – Front Chassis Module (PTF): Front PTO Speed Too Slow / Front PTO Load Too High
Issue description
The system detects that the front PTO slip is too high, typically caused by either a temporary high mechanical load on the PTO system or dirty hydraulic oil affecting the PTO clutch engagement.

Check the cause
Verify if the implement attached to the front PTO is jammed, overloaded, or exceeding the tractor's horsepower rating, causing a temporary high load
Check the condition of the hydraulic oil; dirty, degraded, or incorrect hydraulic oil can cause the PTO clutch to slip
Inspect the front PTO speed sensor, its wiring harness, and the tone wheel for damage or faults
Repair steps
System Reset
Switch the front PTO off and then turn it back on again to clear temporary load faults.
Fluid and Filter Service
If the code persists and dirty hydraulic oil is suspected, drain the hydraulic fluid and replace the hydraulic oil filter(s).
Front PTO Filter Service
Replace the dedicated Front PTO oil filter if it has exceeded its 500-hour service interval.
Sensor Replacement
If the fluid is clean and the load is normal, but the module still registers a slip/slow speed, replace the front PTO speed sensor and repair any damaged wiring leading to the PTF module.
