523758.03

John Deere 523758.03 – OIC: External PTO Switch High Voltage Right Side Switch / Right Switch for Remote Control of Rear PTO, Voltage Too High

Issue description

The control software detects that the voltage at the right-side fender switch for the remote control of the rear PTO is too high, indicating a short circuit to a supply lead (power) in the switch or its wiring circuit. As a safety precaution, the remote control of the rear PTO on the right side is immediately deactivated.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the right remote control switch on the rear fender and its wiring harness for signs of physical damage, moisture ingress, loose connections, or corrosion.

  2. Use a multimeter to measure the voltage at the right remote control switch connector. Ensure it remains within the specified range. If it is too high, investigate the power source for faults.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness running from the OIC to the right remote control switch for any short circuits to a supply lead (power).

  4. Ensure that the OIC control software is updated to the latest version, as firmware updates can sometimes improve the handling of switch voltage levels.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on the electrical system.

  2. Access the Switch

Locate the right-side external PTO switch on the rear fender. Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the back of the switch.

  3. Isolate the Fault

Test the switch for internal shorts using a multimeter. If the switch tests fine, use the multimeter to trace the wiring harness back to the OIC to locate the short to power.

  4. Repair/Replace

If the wiring is damaged or shorted, repair the wiring harness or replace the affected section. If the switch has failed internally (often due to contact wear or moisture ingress), replace the fender PTO switch.

  5. Reassemble and Clear Codes

Reconnect the wiring harness and restore battery power. Many OIC codes can be corrected simply by cycling the key switch or by following the solution on the CommandCenter™ page, then cycling the key switch.

  6. Verify Operation

Test the right-side external PTO switch to ensure the PTO engages/disengages properly and monitor the system to ensure the error does not recur.
