John Deere 523758.04 – OIC (Operator Interface Console): Right Switch for Remote Control of Rear PTO, Voltage Too Low
Issue description
The control software detects that the voltage at the right-side external PTO switch (mounted on the rear fender) has dropped below the acceptable threshold, typically indicating a short circuit to ground in the switch or its wiring harness. As a safety precaution, the control software immediately deactivates the remote control of the rear PTO on the right side.

Check the cause
Cycle the tractor's power by turning the key switch off and back on to rule out a temporary software glitch
Visually inspect the right rear fender PTO switch for physical damage, heavy dirt accumulation, or moisture ingress
Inspect the wiring harness leading to the right fender switch from underneath the mudguard for chafed wires, pinched lines, or exposed copper shorting to the chassis (ground)
Disconnect the switch and inspect the electrical connector pins for corrosion or water intrusion
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor engine, remove the key, and engage the parking brake.
Access the Switch
Locate the right rear external PTO switch on the fender. You will likely need to access the underside of the mudguard/fender to reach the wiring and mounting tabs.
Remove the Fender Surround
On many models, the switch sits inside a plastic fender surround/bezel. Remove any retaining screws or clips holding the protective cover under the fender.
Disconnect the Harness
Unplug the electrical connector from the back of the PTO switch. Clean the harness connector with a dedicated electronics cleaner to ensure no residual moisture or dirt remains.
Remove the Faulty Switch
Depress the retaining tabs on the sides of the switch body and push it outward through the top of the fender/surround.
Install the New Switch
Snap the new OEM replacement switch firmly into the mounting hole until the tabs lock it in place.
Reconnect and Test
Plug the electrical harness back into the switch. Turn the tractor's key switch to the ON position and verify that the 523758.04 code has cleared from the CommandCenter. Test the external PTO engagement to ensure functionality is restored.
