John Deere 523775.02 – ACU, CSM, AIC, SCO, or DOI: Single Lever Control (If Equipped) - Hand Presence Switch Problem / Multi-Function Lever Hand Presence Switch Circuit Fault

Issue description

This code indicates a fault in the single lever control (joystick) hand presence switch due to conflicting outputs or a circuit malfunction. The system cannot verify that the operator's hand is properly placed on the joystick, which is a safety mechanism required to operate the electro-hydraulic controls.

Check the cause

  1. Perform an operator presence check by moving your hand firmly onto the joystick to ensure the safety flap/switch is properly engaged

  2. Restart the tractor engine to perform a system reset, which can sometimes correct communication messages

  3. Visually inspect the single lever control hand presence switch for physical signs of malfunction, wear, or debris blocking the safety flap

  4. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors related to the hand presence switch at the CommandARM for damage, loose connections, or corrosion

  5. Use a John Deere diagnostic tool (Service ADVISOR) to monitor the hand presence switch outputs and verify if the switch is sending conflicting signals

Repair steps

  1. Temporary Workaround (If in the field)

If the code persists and you need to keep working, John Deere advises using the standard SCV III and IV controls. Go into the CommandCenter display and manually disable the "Single Lever Control" to bypass the fault temporarily.

  2. Clear Debris/Clean

If the hand presence switch is sticking due to dirt, clean the joystick assembly and the safety flap area.

  3. Harness Repair

If the diagnostic checks reveal a short or open circuit in the armrest wiring, repair or replace the damaged section of the harness.

  4. Replace the Switch/Joystick

If the switch itself is internally shorted or providing conflicting outputs (and the wiring is intact), the hand presence switch or the entire Single-Lever Control joystick assembly must be replaced.

  5. Re-calibration

After replacing the joystick or switch, cycle the tractor's power. Clear the stored codes in the CommandCenter or via Service ADVISOR and test the joystick to ensure the hand presence safety mechanism is functioning correctly.
