523775.09

John Deere 523775.09 – SCC: CAN BUS Message Fault, Rear Chassis (SCC)

Issue description

Loss of communication or a message error on the CAN bus network specifically related to the rear chassis control system, which often manifests as the Selective Control Valves (SCVs) cutting out, refusing to work, or the tractor acting as if it has shifted into neutral.

Applies to these machines

  • 6110R
  • 6120R
  • 6130R
  • 6145R
  • 6155R
  • 6175R
  • 6195R
  • 6215R
  • 9R Series

Check the cause

  1. Inspect battery cables and ground wires, specifically looking for broken eyelets on wire #0330A, as loose grounds cause CAN bus voltage spikes

  2. Test for power and ground directly at the SCV connectors (power feeds the SCVs in pairs 1 & 2, 3 & 4)

  3. Inspect the frame connectors located just behind the SCVs for heavy corrosion

  4. Check harness continuity from the bottom frame connector to the SCV connector

  5. Check harness continuity from the frame connector to the middle connector of the Rear Chassis Controller (a break here is the most common culprit)

Repair steps

  1. Repair Ground Connections

If a ground wire eyelet is broken or loose at the battery/frame, strip back the damaged section of the wire, crimp on a new heavy-duty eyelet terminal, and seal it with heat shrink tubing.

  2. Bypass or Repair the Harness

If continuity is broken between the Rear Chassis Controller and the SCVs, you must either replace the rear chassis harness entirely or run a new, dedicated overlay wire from the controller to the SCV connector to restore the CAN/power circuit.

  3. Temporary Field Fix

If an SCV cuts out in the field due to a ground issue, you can temporarily add a ground wire from the SCV connector directly to the frame. If it is a power issue, you can temporarily jump power from an unused SCV connector to the dead one to finish the job.

  4. Replace the Controller

If all wiring, grounds, and CAN voltages test perfectly healthy but the controller fails to output signals, the SCC module itself has failed internally and must be replaced and reprogrammed by a dealer.
