John Deere 523789.13 – XMC: Cab Steering Wheel Sensor Not Calibrated / Steering Angle Sensor Not Calibrated / Wheel Angle Sensor Not Calibrated
Issue description
This diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is generated when the control software registers that the steering angle sensor (or wheel angle sensor) has an invalid calibration or has not yet been calibrated.

Check the cause
Inspect the wheel/steering angle sensor for any signs of physical damage, wear, or loose mounting hardware
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors associated with the sensor for signs of damage, corrosion, or loose connections, ensuring all pins are secure
Test the sensor circuit for continuity and integrity using a multimeter or diagnostic tool, checking for open circuits or high resistance points
Monitor the voltage levels at the sensor output in real-time using John Deere Service ADVISOR or the in-cab display to verify voltage changes smoothly as the steering wheel is turned without dropping out
Repair steps
Resolve Hardware Issues
If the diagnostic checks reveal a damaged sensor, broken wiring, or a corroded connector, replace or repair the faulty component first.
Perform Sensor Calibration
Access the calibration menu via the tractor's CommandCenter display monitor or by connecting the John Deere Service ADVISOR diagnostic tool. Navigate to the Steering / AutoTrac / ActiveCommand Steering module settings. Select the 'Wheel Angle Sensor Calibration' or 'Steering Angle Sensor Calibration' procedure. Follow the on-screen prompts, which typically require steering the wheels to the full left lock, full right lock, and finding the exact center position.
Clear Codes and Test
Once calibration is successfully saved, clear the 523789.13 fault code. Test drive the tractor to verify that steering is responsive, AutoTrac engages properly, and the code does not return.
