523795.13

John Deere 523795.13 – XMC, SSU, XMA, or XSC: Steering Valve Not Calibrated

Issue description

The Electro-Hydraulic Steering Valve deadband is out of range or the control unit has detected a calibration fault with the steering valve. This prevents the AutoTrac or ActiveCommand Steering (ACS) systems from functioning correctly.

Check the cause

  1. Check for related active codes for the Wheel Angle Sensor (WAS) or Steering Wheel Position Sensors, as these can prevent successful calibration.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness connecting to the steering control valve (SID) for damage, shorts, or loose connections.

  3. Verify the steering valve supply voltage to ensure it is not out of range (too high or too low), which would trigger accompanying codes like 523810.00 or 523810.01.

Repair steps

  1. Recalibrate the System

Connect the John Deere Service ADVISOR diagnostic tool (or navigate through the machine's AMS/CommandCenter display if supported) and initiate the Electro-Hydraulic Steering Valve calibration procedure.

  2. Clear Codes

Once the calibration successfully completes, clear the stored fault codes and test drive the machine to ensure AutoTrac/steering engages properly.

  3. Replace Valve

If the valve deadband remains out of range and the system repeatedly fails to complete the calibration, the electro-hydraulic steering valve is internally faulty and must be replaced.

  4. Post-Replacement Calibration

If the valve is replaced, you must perform the steering valve calibration procedure again for the new component to be recognized by the XMC/SSU.
