John Deere 523804.19 – SCO (Front Chassis Module): CAN BUS Message Fault, Front Chassis Module (SCO) / Multi-Function Lever (Potentiometer) Function 2 / Lateral Sensor Fault Message Received
Issue description
The value of the multi-function lever (specifically function 2 / the lateral sensor) cannot be determined and provided on the CAN Bus by the AIC control software, causing a transmitted replacement value to generate this diagnostic trouble code and disabling the selective control valve (SCV) as a safety reaction.

Check the cause
Inspect all CAN Bus wiring harnesses leading to the multi-function lever and the SCO module for signs of physical damage, loose connections, pinched wires, or corrosion.
Test the lateral (side-to-side) movement of the multi-function lever to ensure it is not physically binding or damaged.
Use a diagnostic tool to test the CAN Bus network for proper communication to isolate whether the fault is in the lever's internal potentiometer or the wiring harness.
Repair steps
Repair Wiring
Secure and repair any damaged wiring, loose pins, or corroded connectors found during the visual inspection. Clear the codes and retest.
Recalibrate the Lever
If the wiring is intact, attempt to recalibrate the multi-function lever using John Deere Service ADVISOR. Sometimes a loss of calibration can trigger a CAN message fault.
Replace the Multi-Function Lever
If the lever fails calibration or the internal lateral sensor (potentiometer) is dead, the multi-function lever assembly must be replaced.
Clear and Retest
After installing the new lever, clear the diagnostic trouble codes and verify that the selective control valves (SCVs) function normally.
