523805.19

John Deere 523805.19 – SCO or SCC: Incorrect CAN Bus Message, Information from AIC Control Software / Multi-Function Lever Fore-Aft Sensor Fault Message Received

Issue description

This code indicates that the value of the multi-function lever (specifically Function 1 / the fore-aft sensor) cannot be determined and provided on the CAN Bus by the AIC (Armrest Interface Control) software. Because the system cannot read the lever's position, a transmitted replacement value generates this diagnostic trouble code. When this fault is detected, the Selective Control Valves (SCVs) will be disabled and will not function.

Check the cause

  1. Check for Priority Codes: In its active state, this fault can also generate diagnostic trouble codes at the AIC control software. If AIC codes are present, they take priority and should be diagnosed first.

  2. Inspect CAN Bus Wiring: Check all CAN Bus wiring between the multi-function lever, the armrest console, and the SCO module for signs of damage, loose connections, or corrosion.

  3. Verify Multi-Function Lever Operation: Ensure the multi-function lever is not physically jammed or sticking in the fore-aft position.

  4. Test CAN Bus Network: Test the CAN Bus network for proper communication to rule out a broader network failure before condemning the lever itself.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts while working on the CAN Bus system.

  2. Access the Lever

Remove the trim panels on the right-hand armrest console to access the base of the multi-function lever.

  3. Inspect Connections

Disconnect the wiring harness at the base of the multi-function lever. Inspect the connector pins for corrosion, pushed-back pins, or wire chafing. Secure and repair any wiring issues found.

  4. Replace the Lever

If the wiring and CAN Bus network test fine, the internal potentiometer (fore-aft sensor) inside the multi-function lever has failed. The lever actuator must be replaced. Remove the mounting hardware, swap in the new multi-function lever actuator, and reconnect the harness.

  5. Reassemble and Power Up

Reinstall the armrest trim and reconnect the battery.

  6. Recalibrate

Turn the key to the ON position. The new multi-function lever must be recalibrated using the CommandCenter display or John Deere Service ADVISOR.

  7. Test

Clear the fault codes and test the operation of the Selective Control Valves (SCVs) to ensure full functionality has returned.
