Issue description

Triggered when the controller detects an excessive current draw of more than 30 amps from the Y75 solenoid (which controls PTO Speed 3, via lead 7115) while it is switched on. This typically indicates a direct short to ground in the wiring harness or an internal short circuit within the solenoid coil itself.

Check the cause

  1. Wiring Harness Inspection: Trace lead 7115 from the Power Module PC5 to the Y75 PTO Speed 3 solenoid. Look for pinched wires, chafed insulation, or melted spots where the wire might be shorting directly to the tractor chassis.

  2. Solenoid Resistance Test: Disconnect the electrical connector at the Y75 solenoid. Use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the solenoid's pins. A reading of near-zero ohms indicates the coil is internally shorted and must be replaced.

  3. Connector Check: Inspect the harness connector at the solenoid and the BCU/PC5 for water ingress, corrosion, or melted pins that could bridge the circuit.

  4. Circuit Isolation: With the solenoid disconnected, turn the key on and activate the PTO Speed 3 circuit. If the code changes to a 'Low Amp Draw / Open Circuit' (such as 523806.05), the wiring is likely fine, and the solenoid is the culprit. If the high amp draw code persists, the short is in the wiring harness.

Repair steps

  1. Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable

    to prevent accidental shorting or module damage.

  2. Locate the Y75 PTO Speed 3 solenoid

    on the rear PTO hydraulic valve block (usually located on the rear transmission/differential housing).

  3. Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the solenoid.

  4. Clean the area around the valve

    to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

  5. Remove the retaining nut or bolt at the end of the solenoid stem.

  6. Slide the faulty solenoid coil off the hydraulic valve cartridge.

    (Note: You usually do not need to remove the hydraulic cartridge itself, meaning no hydraulic fluid will be lost).

  7. Slide the new solenoid coil onto the valve stem and secure it with the retaining nut/bolt.

    Do not overtighten, as this can crack the plastic coil housing.

  8. Reconnect the electrical harness connector.

  9. Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and engage the PTO

    to verify operation and ensure the BCU 523806.04 code has cleared.
