John Deere 523806.19 – RPT / BCU: Rear PTO Speed 3 Solenoid Issue - Incorrect CAN BUS Message

Triggered when the Power Module (PC5) or the Power Accessory Point (PAP) control software detects that the output for the Y75 solenoid (which controls PTO Speed 3) is receiving conflicting signals from more than one control unit, or the CAN BUS communication regarding this solenoid's state is invalid.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the Y75 PTO Speed 3 solenoid for signs of a short to ground, chafing, or broken wires.

   Use a multimeter to test the Y75 solenoid for proper operation and current draw to rule out an internal short in the coil.

   Check the CAN BUS communication lines between the BCU/RPT and the Power Module (PC5) for continuity and proper voltage.

   Verify if the PAP (Power Accessory Point) or BCU control software is up to date, as outdated software can cause overly sensitive current overload protection and CAN messaging glitches.

   Power Down

   Disconnect the battery or ensure the tractor is completely powered off before servicing electrical components.

   Locate the Component

   Locate the Y75 PTO Speed 3 solenoid on the rear PTO valve block/rear chassis.

   Inspect and Clean

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the solenoid. Inspect the pins for corrosion or pushed-back terminals. Clean or repair the connector if necessary.

   Repair Wiring

   If the wiring harness is damaged or shorting against the chassis, repair or replace the affected harness section.

   Replace the Solenoid

   If the wiring is intact but the solenoid fails the multimeter test (or is mechanically stuck), remove the retaining nut/bolt and slide the old solenoid coil off the valve stem. If the valve itself is faulty, unthread the entire PTO solenoid valve assembly and install the new one.

   Update Software

   Connect a John Deere Service ADVISOR tool to update the PAP/BCU control software to the latest version to prevent false CAN BUS or overcurrent codes.

   Test

   Clear the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and perform a test run of the PTO to verify functionality.
