John Deere 523806 – RPT / BCU / PC5: Rear PTO Speed 3 Solenoid Overload Cut-Out
Issue description
The control module has detected an excessive current draw (a short circuit) on the electrical circuit that powers the "Y75" solenoid, which is responsible for engaging the PTO Speed 3 setting. To prevent electrical fire or damage to the controller, the module actively cuts the power output to this solenoid.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness (specifically lead 7115) from the RPT/PC5 module to the Y75 solenoid for chafed insulation, pinched wires, or shorts to the chassis
Test the Y75 solenoid coil by disconnecting the connector and measuring resistance across the pins; a reading near zero ohms indicates an internal short
Check the solenoid connector for water ingress, melted plastic, or corrosion
Verify the integrity of the power supply fuses (such as fuse F02) that feed the PC5/RPT module
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent any accidental shorts while working on the module circuits.
Locate the Solenoid
Locate the Y75 PTO Speed 3 solenoid valve, which is mounted on the rear PTO hydraulic control valve block.
Harness Repair (If Applicable)
If your diagnostic checks revealed a rubbed or bare wire in the harness shorting to the chassis, repair the wire using solder and weather-resistant heat-shrink tubing.
Solenoid Replacement (If Applicable)
If the solenoid coil failed the resistance test, remove the retaining nut holding the coil to the valve cartridge, or unscrew the entire solenoid valve cartridge (depending on the specific valve block assembly).
Install New Part
Install the replacement solenoid valve. Torque to OEM specifications to ensure proper hydraulic sealing without binding the internal spool.
Reassemble and Reset
Reconnect the electrical harness to the solenoid. Reconnect the battery.
Clear Codes
Turn the key on and use the CommandCenter display or a diagnostic tool to clear the stored 523806.00 fault code from the RPT/BCU module. Test the PTO Speed 3 function to verify the overload condition has been resolved.
