John Deere 523811.01 – RPT (Rear Chassis / Rear PTO) / BCU (Basic Control Unit) / PAP (Power Accessory Point) / Power Module PC5: Supply Voltage Fault for the Y73 Solenoid (PTO Speed 1)
Issue description
The control software measures a supply voltage of less than 1 V (or less than 3 V, depending on the specific module generation) at the output to the PTO Speed 1 solenoid when it is commanded on. This low voltage condition prevents the solenoid from activating properly, resulting in the rear PTO being significantly limited or entirely non-functional.

Check the cause
Inspect the Supply Voltage Circuit: Physically check the wiring harness and connectors leading to the Y73 solenoid (PTO Speed 1) for signs of chafing, corrosion, or an open circuit.
Check Power Module Fuses: Verify the fuses supplying the PC5 power module or RPT controller (e.g., F02 PLB/01 and 02) are intact, as a blown fuse will cause a total voltage drop.
Test Voltage Levels: Use a multimeter to measure the voltage at the solenoid connector when the PTO is activated. It should read standard system voltage (approx. 12V). If it is below 1V-3V, the issue is in the wiring or the controller output.
Verify Solenoid Operation: Test the Y73 solenoid's resistance (ohms) to ensure the internal coil is not shorted or open, which could drag down the circuit voltage.
Repair steps
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic checks reveal damaged wires or corroded pins at the solenoid connector, repair or replace the affected harness section.
Replace the Solenoid
If the wiring and module outputs are healthy but the Y73 solenoid fails a bench test or resistance check, replace the PTO Speed 1 solenoid valve.
Update Control Software
Ensure the PAP/RPT control software is updated to the latest version, as patches have been released to address overly sensitive voltage regulation and current overload protection issues.
Clear and Test
Clear the 523811.01 code using a diagnostic tool and engage the rear PTO to verify the voltage drop does not return and the PTO engages smoothly.
