John Deere 523811.05 – RPT or BCU: Rear PTO Speed 1 Solenoid Low Amp Draw

The control software measures a current of less than 500 mA at the output to the PTO Speed 1 solenoid (Y73) while it is activated, indicating an open circuit. This limits or disables rear PTO functionality.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connections leading to the Y73 PTO Speed 1 solenoid for signs of an open circuit, chafed wires, or disconnected plugs.

   Check for bent pins inside the solenoid connector that may prevent a solid electrical connection.

   Use a multimeter or John Deere diagnostic tools to measure the current levels at the solenoid. Ensure the current is above 500 mA when the solenoid is commanded on.

   Test the Y73 solenoid directly to ensure it operates properly when adequate current is applied.

   Repair Wiring/Connectors

   If the diagnostic checks reveal bent pins, corrosion, or broken wires, install a new connector and pins on the wiring harness, or repair the broken wire.

   Replace the Solenoid

   If the wiring is intact but the Y73 solenoid fails direct operational testing or has an internal open circuit, remove and replace the PTO Speed 1 solenoid.

   Update Control Software

   Ensure that the PAP (or BCU) control software is updated to the latest version. Apply any available patches from John Deere that address current regulation or communication issues.

   Clear Codes and Test

   Clear the 523811.05 code and engage the Rear PTO to verify that the system is fully functional and the code does not return.
