John Deere 523811.19 – Rear Chassis Module (RPT) or Basic Control Unit (BCU) / Power Module PC5: Rear PTO Speed 1 Solenoid Issue

The control unit is receiving an incorrect CAN bus message or detecting an actuation/communication fault regarding the Y73 solenoid, which is responsible for engaging the rear PTO's primary speed (Speed 1).

   Inspect the Y73 PTO Speed 1 solenoid and its wiring harness for physical damage, corrosion, or loose connections at the rear PTO valve block.

   Use a multimeter to check the electrical continuity and resistance levels in the Y73 solenoid circuitry to rule out a wiring short or failed solenoid coil.

   Verify the integrity of the CAN bus communication lines between the RPT/BCU module and the PTO control nodes.

   Ensure the Power Module (PC5) is sending the correct voltage to the solenoid when PTO Speed 1 is commanded on.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

   Locate the Component

   Locate the rear PTO valve block on the rear chassis. Identify the Y73 solenoid (Speed 1) among the PTO solenoids (usually grouped with Y74 for Speed 2 and Y75 for Speed 3).

   Disconnect Wiring

   Carefully unplug the electrical harness connector from the Y73 solenoid.

   Remove the Solenoid

   Remove the retaining nut or mounting bolts holding the solenoid coil/valve assembly in place. Slide the old solenoid off the valve stem (or remove the entire cartridge valve if replacing the complete assembly).

   Install the New Part

   Insert the new solenoid valve assembly. Torque the retaining nut/bolts to OEM specifications.

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical connector back into the new solenoid.

   Test

   Reconnect the battery. Use a diagnostic tool to clear the 523811.19 fault code. Start the tractor and engage PTO Speed 1 to verify proper operation and ensure the code does not return.
