523812.01

John Deere 523812.01 – RPT / BCU / PC5: Rear PTO Speed 2 Solenoid Voltage Issue

Issue description

The control software measures a supply voltage of less than 2 Volts at the output to the Y74 solenoid (PTO Speed 2) while commanded ON. This indicates a supply voltage fault, typically caused by an open circuit, a short to ground, a blown fuse, or a failed solenoid coil, resulting in limited or disabled rear PTO functionality.

Applies to these machines

  • 6110R
  • 6120R
  • 6130R
  • 6145R
  • 6155R
  • 6175R
  • 6195R
  • 6215R
  • 6230
  • 6330
  • 6430

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the cab fuse panel for any blown fuses related to the Power Module or PTO system (e.g., F02 PLB/01 and 02)

  2. Thoroughly examine the wiring harness and connectors leading to the Y74 solenoid for worn insulation, exposed wires, or corrosion

  3. Use a multimeter to measure the voltage at the Y74 solenoid connector to ensure it receives adequate voltage (above 2V) when PTO Speed 2 is activated

  4. Test the Y74 solenoid coil for proper resistance (ohms) to check for an internal short or open circuit

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

  2. Locate the Solenoid

Locate the Y74 PTO Speed 2 Solenoid on the rear chassis PTO valve block.

  3. Repair Wiring

If the diagnostic checks revealed chafed wires or corroded connector pins on the harness side, repair the damaged wiring or replace the connector pigtail.

  4. Replace the Solenoid

If the wiring is intact and the solenoid failed the resistance test, remove the retaining nut/bolt holding the Y74 solenoid coil to the valve stem. Slide the old solenoid off and install the new OEM replacement.

  5. Reassemble and Reconnect

Plug the electrical connector back into the solenoid and reconnect the battery.

  6. Clear Codes and Test

Turn the key switch on. Clear the fault codes using a diagnostic tool or the CommandCenter display. Engage the rear PTO in Speed 2 to verify the voltage issue is resolved and the PTO operates normally.

  7. Software Update

If the hardware is fully functional but the code persists, update the PAP/RPT control software to the latest version to address known voltage regulation logic issues.
