John Deere 523812 – RPT (Rear Chassis) or BCU (Basic Control Unit): Rear PTO Speed 2 Solenoid Overload Cut-Out
Issue description
The control software detects an abnormally high current draw (an overload) on the circuit for the Y74 Solenoid (PTO Speed 2). In response, the system initiates an overload cut-out, shutting down the affected circuit to prevent overheating, fire risk, or further damage to electrical components, which leaves the rear PTO significantly limited or entirely non-functional.

Check the cause
Inspect wiring and connectors associated with the Y74 solenoid (specifically lead 7106) for worn insulation, exposed wires, or abnormalities causing a short circuit.
Use a multimeter to test the circuit for continuity and to locate any potential short to ground.
Test the Y74 solenoid itself to ensure it is not internally shorted and is receiving adequate voltage.
Check Power Module PC5 to ensure the module itself is not the source of the fault.
Repair steps
Repair Wiring
If specific areas of damage or malfunction are identified during the multimeter tests, repair or replace the faulty wiring or connectors to resolve the short circuit.
Replace the Solenoid
If the Y74 solenoid is found to be internally shorted or faulty, remove and replace it.
Update Software
Ensure that the PAP control software is updated to the latest version, applying any available patches that address voltage/current regulation issues.
Reset and Test
After repairs are made, reset the associated fault codes and test the PTO system to ensure that the issue has been resolved and that the current remains within safe operational limits.
