John Deere 523813.01 – RPT / BCU: Rear PTO Speed 1 Solenoid Voltage Issue
Issue description
The control software measures a supply voltage of less than 1 V at the output to the Y73 solenoid (PTO speed 1) when commanded on, indicating a supply voltage fault, a short/open in the circuit, or a power module failure. Rear PTO functionality is significantly limited or disabled.

Check the cause
Check fuse F02 (specifically F02 PLB/01) to ensure it is intact, as a blown fuse will cut power to the PC5 module.
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the BCU/PC5 power module and the Y73 solenoid for damage, corrosion, or loose pins.
Measure the supply voltage at the output for the Y73 solenoid when the PTO is activated (the code triggers if voltage is below 1V at the solenoid or below 3V at the PC5 output).
Test the Y73 solenoid's resistance (a healthy coil typically reads around 5 Ohms) to ensure it is not internally shorted.
Verify if the PC5 power module is outputting voltage to determine if the BCU/PC5 is faulty.
Repair steps
Replace Fuses
If fuse F02 is blown, replace it and retest the system.
Repair Wiring
Repair or replace any damaged wires or connectors in the supply voltage circuit to the Y73 solenoid.
Replace the Solenoid
If the Y73 solenoid fails the resistance test or is found to be mechanically/electrically faulty, replace the solenoid.
Replace/Repair the BCU
If the wiring and solenoid are intact but the PC5 power module fails to provide adequate voltage, the BCU or PC5 module must be repaired or replaced.
Software Update
Ensure that the PAP (PTO) control software is updated to the latest version, applying any available patches that address voltage regulation issues.
Parts you might need
(3)Rear PTO Speed 1 Solenoid (Y73 Solenoid Valve)
Specific OEM part number varies heavily by exact tractor model and transmission type; verify via dealer parts catalog using the machine's PIN.
Fuse F02
Standard automotive blade fuse (amperage specified by the fuse block diagram).
BCU / PC5 Power Module
Requires exact machine serial number for correct OEM part number and subsequent dealer programming.
