John Deere 523813.03 – Rear Chassis (RPT): Rear PTO Speed 1 Solenoid Voltage Issue

The control software measures an abnormal or excessively high supply voltage at the output to the PTO Speed 1 solenoid when it is activated. This indicates a supply voltage fault, a short to power, or an internal issue within the solenoid circuit, which significantly limits or disables the rear PTO functionality.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connections for the supply voltage circuit leading to the PTO Speed 1 solenoid for chafed wires, corrosion, or shorts to a power source.

   Measure the voltage levels at the solenoid for PTO Speed 1 using a multimeter or diagnostic tool to ensure voltage remains within the specified operating range when commanded on.

   Test the solenoid for proper resistance and operation to determine if an internal short is causing the voltage spike.

   Verify that the PAP (Power Assist/PTO) control software is updated to the latest version.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on the electrical system.

   Repair Wiring

   If the diagnostic checks revealed damaged wires or connectors in the PTO solenoid circuit, repair or replace the affected harness sections.

   Replace the Solenoid

   If the wiring is intact but the solenoid failed the voltage/resistance test, remove the faulty PTO solenoid valve from the rear chassis valve block and install a new one.

   Reconnect the battery, clear the RPT 523813.03 fault code using a diagnostic tool, and engage the rear PTO to verify that normal operation has been restored and the code does not return.
