523813.09

John Deere 523813.09 – RPT / BCU: CAN BUS Message Fault Rear Chassis (RPT) / Incorrect CAN BUS Message for Y73 Solenoid, PTO Speed 1

Issue description

Communication problem between the power module (PC5) / PAP Control Software and the control unit, indicating intermittent or non-existent reception of CAN messages critical to the operation of the Y73 Solenoid (Rear PTO Speed 1). This causes the rear PTO functionality to be significantly limited or entirely non-functional.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the Y73 solenoid circuit wiring harness and connectors for signs of a short, open circuit, corrosion, or overheating.

  2. Inspect the CAN Bus wiring between the BCU/RPT and the Power Module PC5 for breaks or poor pin tension.

  3. Measure the current and voltage levels at the Y73 solenoid to ensure they are within the specified range.

  4. Use John Deere Service ADVISOR to manually actuate and test the Y73 solenoid for proper operation.

  5. Verify if the PAP (Power Accessory Point) control software is updated to the latest version, as software glitches can cause false CAN message faults.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on the electrical system.

  2. Locate the Y73 Solenoid

Find the Y73 Solenoid (PTO Speed 1) on the rear chassis/PTO valve block.

  3. Repair Wiring

If the diagnostic checks revealed damaged wires or connectors in the CAN Bus lines or the solenoid power supply, repair or replace the affected harness sections.

  4. Replace the Solenoid

If the wiring is intact but the Y73 solenoid failed the operational test or is overheating, remove the retaining hardware, extract the faulty solenoid, and install the new replacement.

  5. Update Software

Apply any available patches or updates to the PAP control software via Service ADVISOR.

  6. Clear and Test

Reconnect the battery, clear the 523813.09 fault code, and engage the rear PTO to verify that functionality is restored and the code does not return.

Parts you might need
