John Deere 523815.01 – RPT / BCU / PAPTOS: Rear PTO Speed 3 Solenoid Voltage Issue

The controller has detected an open circuit, low voltage, or a power supply failure at the Power Module (specifically the PC5 Transmission Power Module) that supplies voltage to the Y75 solenoid, which is responsible for engaging PTO Speed 3.

   Inspect fuses F02 PLB/01 and 02 supplying the PC5 Power Module for blown fuses

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the RPT/BCU controller, the PC5 Power Module, and the Y75 solenoid for disconnected wires, broken connections, or corrosion

   Measure the resistance of the Y75 solenoid coil using a multimeter to ensure it is not internally shorted or open

   Measure the voltage at the PC5 module outputs and at the Y75 solenoid connector when PTO Speed 3 is commanded ON (system expects >500 mA current draw)

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

   Locate the Components

   Locate the PC5 Power Module (usually mounted near the transmission/rear chassis) and the Y75 solenoid on the rear PTO valve block.

   Repair Wiring

   If the diagnostic checks revealed chafed wires or corroded connectors on the PC5 harness, repair the wiring or replace the harness section.

   Replace the Solenoid

   If the Y75 solenoid failed the resistance test: Disconnect the electrical connector from the Y75 solenoid. Remove the retaining nut or bolt holding the solenoid coil to the valve stem. Slide the old coil off and install the new replacement coil. Secure the retaining nut and reconnect the wiring harness.

   Replace the PC5 Module

   If wiring and the solenoid are good but the PC5 module is not outputting voltage, the module itself has failed and must be replaced and potentially calibrated/flashed by a dealer.

   Test

   Reconnect the battery, clear the fault codes using a diagnostic monitor, and engage PTO Speed 3 to verify the repair.
