John Deere 523815.09 – RPT / BCU: Incorrect CAN BUS Message for the Y75 Solenoid (PTO Speed 3)

Communication issue between the Power Module PC5 and the control unit managing the rear chassis. The fault is triggered when there is intermittent or nonexistent reception of one or more CAN messages critical for operating the Y75 solenoid, which controls the Power Take-Off (PTO) Speed 3.

   Cycle the key switch to see if the fault clears, as it may be a temporary CAN BUS communication glitch

   Check the CAN High and CAN Low lines between the Power Module PC5 and the RPT/BCU (voltages should range between 1.8 and 3.3 Volts). Check for high CAN Bus utilization or missing messages from other controllers.

   Inspect the wiring pathway (specifically lead 7115) that powers the Y75 solenoid for open circuits, disconnected wires, or broken connections (current draw under 500 mA indicates an open circuit)

   Test the ELX relay and measure the resistance (ohms) of the Y75 PTO solenoid to ensure it is not shorted internally

   Inspect the Harness

   Visually inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the RPT/BCU, the Power Module PC5, and the rear PTO solenoids. Clean any corroded pins and ensure connectors are fully seated.

   Test the Solenoid

   Disconnect the Y75 solenoid (PTO Speed 3) and apply direct 12V power to test its mechanical operation. Measure its internal resistance with a multimeter.

   Replace Faulty Components

   If the solenoid is shorted, open, or fails to actuate, replace the Y75 solenoid. If the ELX relay in the PTO electrical circuit is faulty, replace the relay.

   Repair Wiring

   If the solenoid tests good but the PC5 module still detects an open circuit (under 500 mA), trace lead 7115 back to the module and repair the break in the wire using a wiring connector repair kit.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect all components, turn the key switch on, and clear the stored fault codes. Engage the PTO to verify functionality. If the wiring and solenoid are intact but the CAN BUS message fault persists, the Power Module PC5 or RPT module may require software reprogramming or replacement.
