Issue description

Triggered when the power module detects a current exceeding 1 amp in lead 7115, despite the Y75 solenoid for the Rear PTO (Power Take-Off) Speed 3 being commanded off. This abnormal current flow typically indicates a short-to-power in the wiring harness (specifically lead 7115), a faulty solenoid, or an internal failure within the power module itself.

Check the cause

  1. Visual Inspection (short-to-power cause): Inspect the wiring harness and connectors associated with the Y75 solenoid (specifically lead 7115) for any signs of chafing, melted insulation, or pinched wires that could cause a short to a power source.

  2. Multimeter Testing (short-to-power cause): Disconnect the Y75 solenoid and use a multimeter to check lead 7115 for voltage when the PTO is switched off. If voltage is present, there is a short to power in the harness.

  3. Solenoid Testing (faulty solenoid cause): Test the Y75 solenoid's internal resistance to ensure it is not internally shorted.

  4. Module Testing (internal module failure cause): If the wiring harness and solenoid test perfectly fine, the Power Module PC5 may have an internal fault (e.g., a stuck internal relay or shorted driver) that is leaking current to the circuit.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

    Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes during repair.

  2. Access the Solenoid

    Locate the Y75 PTO Speed 3 solenoid valve on the rear PTO valve block/housing.

  3. Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

    If the diagnostic checks revealed a short in lead 7115, trace the harness back to the PC5 module. Repair or replace the damaged section of the wiring harness using proper weather-sealed connectors.

  4. Replace the Solenoid (If Applicable)

    If the solenoid is faulty, remove the retaining nut/bolt, slide the old solenoid coil off the valve stem, and install the new OEM replacement. Torque to manufacturer specifications.

  5. Replace/Reprogram Module (If Applicable)

    If the Power Module PC5 is confirmed to be the source of the rogue current, it must be replaced and subsequently reprogrammed/calibrated using John Deere Service ADVISOR.

  6. Reassembly and Clearing Codes

    Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the 523815.12 fault code. Test the PTO through all speed ranges to ensure the code does not return.
