John Deere 523815.19 – RPT / BCU: Incorrect CAN BUS Message for Y75 Solenoid, PTO Speed 3

Issue description

Communication error involving the Y75 solenoid for PTO Speed 3. The output for activating the Y75 solenoid is erroneously being energized by more than one control unit, leading to conflicting signals on the CAN BUS network and causing the system to temporarily disable the Y75 solenoid.

Applies to these machines

  • 6110R
  • 6120R
  • 6130R
  • 6145R
  • 6155R
  • 6175R
  • 6195R
  • 6215R
  • 6230
  • 6330
  • 6430

Check the cause

  1. Diagnose CAN Bus Communication: Use John Deere Service ADVISOR (or a compatible diagnostic tool) to analyze the communication paths within the CAN BUS system. Look for misconfigurations that are causing multiple control units to attempt to energize the same output.

  2. Inspect Wiring and Connections: Thoroughly check all wiring connections between the BCU/RPT and Power Module PC5. Poor, loose, or corroded connections can mimic or cause CAN BUS communication errors.

  3. Check for Interference: Ensure there is no electromagnetic interference affecting CAN bus communication (e.g., wiring rubbing against high-voltage lines).

Repair steps

  1. Reconfigure System Settings

Access the control unit settings via the diagnostic tool. Adjust the configurations to ensure that only the correct unit (RPT/BCU) is assigned to send activation signals for the Y75 solenoid. Remove any duplicate or misassigned controls.

  2. Repair Wiring

If the physical inspection revealed any damaged wiring or loose pins at the PC5 module or the Y75 solenoid harness, repair or replace the affected connector/wiring.

  3. Update Software/Firmware

Flash the BCU, RPT, and Power Module PC5 with the latest software/firmware. Software bugs are a common cause of multiple modules trying to control the same CAN BUS output.

  4. Test System Operation

Clear the fault codes, reset the system, and thoroughly test the PTO Speed 3 engagement to ensure the Y75 solenoid operates correctly without any signal overlaps.

Parts you might need
