John Deere 523819.14 – SIC: A37 Stepper Motor ESCV 2, Incorrect CAN BUS Message from SIC

Issue description

There is a data transmission problem between the Electro-Hydraulic Section Control Valve 2 (ESCV 2) stepper motor and the control unit. The control unit is receiving an incorrect CAN BUS message from the stepper motor, or the connection is dropping intermittently, leading to impaired or lost control of the associated hydraulic functions.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the SIC control unit and the A37 ESCV 2 stepper motor for damage, wear, corrosion, or loose pins.

  2. Measure the CAN BUS signal transmission between the SIC and the stepper motor to verify there are no physical interruptions.

  3. Use John Deere diagnostic equipment to run an operational test on the A37 stepper motor for ESCV 2 to see if it responds to commands.

  4. Ensure the SIC control unit firmware and software are up to date to rule out a software-related communication glitch.

Repair steps

  1. Cycle Power

    Turn the ignition off and back on to see if the initialization link can be successfully re-established.

  2. Repair Wiring

    If any damaged wires or loose connectors were found during the diagnostic phase, repair or replace the affected harness sections.

  3. Replace the Stepper Motor

    If the wiring is intact but the A37 stepper motor fails the diagnostic test or continues to send incorrect CAN messages, remove the defective ESCV 2 stepper motor from the valve block and install a new OEM stepper motor.

  4. Replace the SIC Control Unit

    If a new stepper motor and verified wiring do not resolve the incorrect CAN BUS message fault, the SIC Electronic Control Unit itself may have an internal fault and will need to be replaced or sent out for remanufacturing.

  5. Recalibrate

    After replacing the stepper motor or the SIC, use diagnostic software to clear the codes and recalibrate the SCV system.
