John Deere 523824.1 – SSU / XSC: Steering Wheel Position Sensor 2 Signal Mismatch
Issue description
The voltage in Channel 1 and Channel 2 are not in the correct ratio. The values read by Sensor 1 and Sensor 2 differ by more than a specific threshold, causing the AutoTrac automated steering system to be disabled for safety.

Check the cause
Remove the steering column covers/cowl to access the Steering Input Device (SID) on the steering wheel shaft.
Visually inspect the wiring harness and connectors for damage or loose pins.
Interchange the connectors for the two steering wheel position sensors at the SID.
Clear the active codes and operate the steering to observe which Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) returns.
If the exact same DTC (523824.10) returns: Suspect a wiring harness issue between the SID and the steering controller (SSU/XSC).
If a different DTC for the other position sensor becomes active: Suspect an internal failure of the Steering Input Device (SID).
Repair steps
Park the machine on a level surface, turn off the engine, and remove the key.
Remove the plastic covers/cowl surrounding the steering wheel shaft to expose the Steering Input Device.
Perform the diagnostic connector swap test detailed in the diagnostic checks.
If the sensor is faulty: Unbolt and remove the defective Steering Input Device / Steering Wheel Position Sensor assembly from the steering column and install the replacement part.
If the wiring is faulty: Trace the harness from the SID to the steering controller.
Repair any broken wires or replace the steering input device wiring harness entirely.
Reconnect all harnesses and reinstall the steering column covers.
Start the tractor, clear the stored fault codes, and test the AutoTrac system to verify the repair.
