Issue description
This code is generated when there is a data transmission problem between the control unit and the stepper motor of ESCV 1. Following a successful initialization at ignition, the control unit either fails to establish a connection to the stepper motor or experiences intermittent contact (often due to a loose wire or CAN BUS interruption). As a result, ESCV 1 may not respond correctly, leading to impaired or lost control of the associated hydraulic functions.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the SIC control unit and the A36 ESCV 1 stepper motor for signs of wire chafing, corrosion, or loose pins.
Verify the system voltage at the stepper motor, ensuring it receives a stable voltage above 9 volts.
Use John Deere Service ADVISOR or a compatible diagnostic tool to monitor the CAN BUS network for intermittent signal drops to the SIC module.
Ensure that the SIC control unit firmware is up to date to rule out software-related communication glitches.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the ignition and disconnect the battery to protect the CAN BUS network.
Harness Repair
If the diagnostic checks revealed damaged wiring or corroded connector pins at the ESCV 1 stepper motor, repair the wiring or replace the affected pigtail/harness section.
Stepper Motor Replacement
If the wiring and voltage are good but the motor still fails to communicate, the internal electronics of the stepper motor have likely failed. Clean the area around ESCV 1, unplug the electrical connector from the A36 stepper motor, unbolt the stepper motor from the SCV valve body, and install the new stepper motor (ensure new O-rings/flange seals are used to prevent hydraulic leaks).
