John Deere 523828.14 – SCO / SIC: CAN BUS communication failure involving the electronic selective control valves (E-SCV / EICV)
Issue description
Indicates a data transfer problem between the SCO control software and E-SCV XII, or an incorrect CAN BUS message from the SIC to the M13 Stepper Motor EICV 2. The stepper motor intermittently cannot establish a connection to the control unit via the CAN BUS.

Check the cause
Inspect the CAN BUS wiring harness and connectors between the SCO/SIC control unit and the E-SCV XII / EICV 2 stepper motor for physical damage, chafing, wear, or loose pins
Use John Deere Service ADVISOR or equivalent diagnostic equipment to monitor the CAN BUS network for intermittent data drops or errors
Verify the transmitting control software to ensure the control unit firmware is up to date, ruling out a software glitch
Verify that the SCO/SIC control unit is functioning correctly and processing CAN BUS messages properly
Repair steps
Secure Connections
Disconnect, clean, and securely reconnect the wiring harness connectors at both the control unit and the E-SCV XII valve to rule out a loose wire or intermittent contact.
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic checks reveal damaged CAN BUS wiring, repair or replace the affected section of the wiring harness.
Update Software
Flash/update the SCO/SIC control unit with the latest firmware to resolve any known software-related transmission issues.
Component Replacement
If wiring and software are confirmed good but the communication problem persists, the control unit itself may be failing. Note: Do not immediately replace the E-SCV stepper motor, as OEM documentation states the motor itself is not the root cause of this specific CAN BUS code.
