   Verify voltage at the signal input of the depth-setting potentiometer (B27) using a multimeter to confirm it is reading below 0.25 V.

   Inspect the wiring harness between the rear hitch control lever sensor and the control module for pinched wires, chafing, breaks, or shorts to ground.

   Disconnect the sensor and module connectors to check for corrosion, moisture, or loose/backed-out pins causing a voltage drop.

   Perform a sensor bench test by checking the potentiometer's resistance sweep. An open circuit or drop out during the sweep indicates internal failure.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes during repair.

   Access the Sensor

   Remove the control console cover that houses the position feedback unit / hitch control levers.

   Repair Wiring

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire or corroded connector, repair the harness using OEM-approved splicing methods or replace the damaged connector pigtail.

   Replace the Sensor

   If the wiring is intact, the potentiometer itself is faulty. Pull off the control knobs, remove the hex nuts, and carefully press out the depth-setting potentiometer (B27). Install the new potentiometer and secure the hardware.

   Reassemble

   Reconnect the sensor harness and reinstall the control console cover.

   Perform Hitch Calibration

   After replacing the depth-setting potentiometer or repairing the circuit, you must recalibrate the rear hitch using the tractor's CommandCenter or a John Deere Service ADVISOR tool.
