523843.09

John Deere 523843.09 – HCC: CAN BUS Message Error - Hitch Quick Raise/Lower Switch

Issue description

The HCC module is unable to receive valid data over the CAN bus from the AIC (Armrest Interface Control) module. This occurs when the AIC detects an open circuit in the Hitch Quick Raise/Lower Switch circuit and transmits a substitute/default value over the CAN bus.

Applies to these machines

  • 6110R
  • 6120R
  • 6130R
  • 6145R
  • 6155R
  • 6175R
  • 6195R
  • 6215R
  • 5100R
  • 6110M-6195M
  • 6110R-6215R
  • 7200R
  • 8130
  • 8230
  • 8330
  • 8430
  • 8530
  • 9360R-9560R
  • 9470RT-9570RT

Check the cause

  1. Check for AIC Fault Codes: Look for active codes in the AIC module (such as 524212.15) which indicate the specific out-of-range or open-circuit condition.

  2. Inspect the Switch: Examine the Hitch Quick Raise/Lower Switch on the armrest/hand control unit for physical damage, sticking, or liquid intrusion.

  3. Test the Switch Circuit: Disconnect the switch and use a multimeter to test for an open circuit in the wiring harness between the armrest switch and the AIC module.

  4. Check CAN Bus Integrity: Inspect the CAN bus communication wiring and connectors between the AIC (Armrest) and HCC (Rear Chassis) modules for corrosion, loose pins, or damage.

Repair steps

  1. Address Primary Codes

Diagnose and resolve any active fault codes present in the AIC module first, as the HCC code is merely a reaction to the AIC's substitute data.

  2. Repair Wiring

If an open circuit is found between the Hitch Quick Raise/Lower Switch and the AIC, repair the damaged wire or replace the affected harness section.

  3. Replace the Switch

If the wiring is intact but the switch fails continuity testing (internal open circuit), replace the Hitch Quick Raise/Lower Switch.

  4. Reassemble and Clear Codes

Reconnect all modules, turn the key to the ON position, and clear the stored fault codes.

  5. Verify Operation

Cycle the Hitch Quick Raise/Lower Switch to ensure the rear hitch responds correctly and that the 523843.09 code does not return.
