John Deere 523843.31 – HCC: Quick Raise/Lower Switch, Fault

There is a CAN BUS message error or communication breakdown between the Quick Raise/Lower (QRL) switch and the control module, indicating the signal from the switch is missing, out of valid range, or shorted.

   Cycle the tractor's key switch off and on, and cycle the hitch control lever three times to attempt a system recovery

   Ensure that the remote fender switch and the in-cab Quick Raise/Lower switch are not being pressed or stuck at the same time

   Inspect the external rear fender Quick Raise/Lower switches for physical damage, packed dirt, or water ingress

   Test the circuit and harness between the QRL switch and the HCC/HCU using a multimeter to check for a short to ground or an open circuit

   Observe the QRL diagnostic indicator on the dash (if equipped) to identify if the blink code points to the switch itself or the circuit

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the Switch

   Locate the faulty Quick Raise/Lower switch (diagnostics will usually isolate whether it is the left fender, right fender, or in-cab switch) and remove the mounting screws or retaining clips holding the switch housing to the fender/console.

   Inspect the Connector

   Unplug the wiring harness connector. Inspect the pins for corrosion, bent terminals, or moisture. Clean with electrical contact cleaner if necessary.

   Test the Switch

   Perform a continuity test on the switch itself while toggling it. If the switch fails to show proper continuity or is internally shorted, it must be replaced.

   Replace and Reassemble

   Plug the harness into the new OEM switch, secure it back into the mounting location, and reconnect the battery.

   Clear Codes and Calibrate

   Turn the key on, clear the stored HCC 523843.31 fault code via the CommandCenter or diagnostic tool, and test the hitch operation to ensure the module recognizes the new switch.
