523869.01

John Deere 523869.01 – SCO: E-SCV XI Stepper Motor Temp Low

Issue description

This diagnostic trouble code indicates that the temperature of the stepper motor for the Electronic Selective Control Valve 11 (E-SCV XI) has dropped below -45°C (-49°F). When this fault is detected, the control software disables the valve to protect the system, resulting in limited or no function of the selective control valve.

Check the cause

  1. Check ambient temperature to verify if the tractor is actually operating in extreme cold (-45°C/-49°F), which would indicate a true reading rather than a sensor failure.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and the specific plug for the E-SCV XI stepper motor for signs of damage, shorts to ground, or corrosion.

  3. Ensure that the power supply (BAT) to the E-SCV XI stepper motor is stable and within the required voltage range (typically above 9V and below 16V).

  4. Use a diagnostic tool (such as John Deere Service ADVISOR or Jaltest) to monitor the live temperature and voltage values of the E-SCV XI stepper motor.

Repair steps

  1. Warm up tractor

If operating in extreme cold, allow the tractor and hydraulic oil to warm up. The stepper motor will not resume normal operation until the temperature rises above the critical threshold.

  2. Clean connections

Disconnect the harness at the E-SCV XI stepper motor. Clean the pins and secure the connection. Clear the code and retest.

  3. Test the harness

Pin out the wiring from the SCO module to the E-SCV XI stepper motor to ensure there is no open circuit or short to ground. Repair or replace any damaged wire segments.

  4. Replace stepper motor or valve

If the wiring is intact and the ambient temperature is normal, the temperature sensor inside the stepper motor has failed. Replace the stepper motor or the entire E-SCV XI slice.

  5. Recalibrate E-SCV

After replacing the stepper motor or valve, use a diagnostic tool to recalibrate the E-SCV XI control unit so the SCO module recognizes the new component's travel limits.

Parts you might need

(2)
  • Stepper Motor for E-SCV XI

Specific part numbers vary heavily by exact tractor serial number and valve stack configuration. Often sold as a complete E-SCV slice or actuator head.

  • SCO Control Unit / SCV Controller

    RE216996

Exact fitment requires verification against the machine's PIN/serial number.
