John Deere 523870.01 – SCO (Front Chassis Module): Stepper Motor for E-SCV XII (12), Temperature Too Low

This code is triggered when the internal temperature of the stepper motor for Electronic Selective Control Valve (E-SCV) 12 drops below -45°C (-49°F). The system disables the selective control valve to prevent damage, resulting in no function of that specific SCV.

   Allow the tractor, hydraulic oil, and stepper motor to warm up to operating temperature. Extremely low ambient temperatures can naturally trigger this code.

   If the tractor is equipped with a block or hydraulic heating system, ensure it is functioning properly.

   Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector at the E-SCV 12 stepper motor. Look for damaged wires, corrosion, or shorts that could be sending a false low temperature reading to the SCO module.

   Use a diagnostic tool to monitor the live temperature reading of the E-SCV 12 stepper motor. If the ambient temperature is warm but the sensor reads -45°C, the internal thermistor/sensor in the stepper motor has failed.

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements, turn off the engine, and relieve hydraulic pressure.

   Disconnect Electrical

   Locate the electrical plug on the E-SCV 12 stepper motor. Unplug the wiring connector and move the wiring loom aside so it does not snag.

   Valve Removal

   Use the correct spanners and sockets to undo the SCV valve fixings. Support the valve body as you remove the last fastener.

   Bench Work

   Take the valve off the tractor and move it to a clean workbench. Keep the sealing faces away from dirt. Unbolt the faulty stepper motor from the valve body.

   Installation

   Install the new E-SCV stepper motor onto the valve body. Reinstall the valve assembly onto the tractor and torque the fasteners to OEM specifications.

   Reconnection

   Reconnect the electrical wiring harness to the new stepper motor.

   Calibration

   New stepper motors require a dealer calibration to function properly. This must be done via the tractor's control monitor or John Deere Service ADVISOR software to set the flow rates and limits.
