John Deere 523887.04 – SIC: A36 Stepper Motor E-SCV 1, Temperature Too Low
Issue description
This error code is generated when the temperature of the stepper motor of ESCV 1 (Electro-Hydraulic Section Control Valve) is measured at less than 45°C (49°F).

Check the cause
Inspect wiring and connectors between the SIC control unit and the ESCV 1 stepper motor (A36) for damage, wear, moisture, or loose connections
Test the stepper motor using John Deere Service ADVISOR to monitor live temperature data and ensure correct functioning
Measure CAN BUS signal transmission between the control unit and the stepper motor to ensure no interruptions
Ensure the SIC control unit firmware and software are up to date to rule out software-related bugs
Repair steps
Warm Up the Machine
Operate the tractor to ensure the hydraulic oil and surrounding components reach normal operating temperature. If the code persists despite the system being warm, proceed to electrical diagnostics.
Harness Inspection
Disconnect the wiring harness at the ESCV 1 stepper motor (designated as A36). Inspect the pins for corrosion, pushed-out pins, or moisture intrusion.
Circuit/Harness Test
Perform a circuit/harness test between the SIC module and the A36 Stepper Motor E-SCV 1 to verify continuity and ensure there are no shorts to ground or power.
Repair Wiring
If the wiring harness is damaged or continuity fails, repair or replace the affected section of the harness.
Replace Stepper Motor
If the wiring is intact, the CAN BUS communication is stable, and the software is up to date, the temperature sensor internal to the stepper motor has likely failed. You must remove and replace the E-SCV Stepper Motor assembly.
Calibration
After replacing the stepper motor, use a diagnostic tool to clear the fault codes and perform an E-SCV calibration procedure so the SIC recognizes the new motor's parameters.
