523890

John Deere 523890 – SIC: A36 Stepper Motor ESCV 1, Supply Voltage Out of Valid Range High

Issue description

System voltage at the stepper motor of ESCV 1 exceeds 16 volts, which can cause erratic operation or complete failure of the associated hydraulic functions.

Check the cause

  1. Measure voltage directly at the ESCV 1 stepper motor harness to confirm if it is receiving over 16 volts

  2. Inspect the charging system (battery health and alternator output) to see if a faulty alternator voltage regulator is causing system-wide voltage spikes exceeding 16V

  3. Inspect the wiring harness between the SIC control unit and the ESCV 1 stepper motor for any shorts to power

  4. Test the stepper motor itself to ensure it has not been internally shorted or damaged due to the high voltage condition

  5. Verify that the SIC control unit firmware is up to date to rule out software-related false voltage readings

Repair steps

  1. Resolve Power Supply Issues

If the alternator is overcharging the system (outputting >16V), replace the alternator or voltage regulator first to prevent continuous damage to replacement stepper motors.

  2. Repair Wiring

If a short to power is found in the harness between the SIC and the ESCV 1, repair or replace the damaged wiring section.

  3. Replace the Stepper Motor

If the high voltage has burned out the ESCV 1 stepper motor (A36), remove the faulty motor from the valve block and install the replacement E-SCV stepper motor.

  4. Calibrate

After replacing the motor or resolving the voltage issue, clear the fault codes and perform an interactive test/calibration for the electronic control units via the tractor's diagnostic monitor.
