John Deere 523917.03 – PTA (Transmission Module IVT) / TCU (Transmission Control Unit): High Voltage On Signal From Hydro Speed Sensor
Issue description
The control software detects that the voltage at the signal input from channel 2 of the hydrostatic speed sensor (Sensor B62, lead 6095) is too high. This typically indicates a supply voltage problem, an open circuit, or a short to power within the sensor circuit.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness leading to the B62 Hydrostatic Speed Sensor (specifically lead 6095 for Channel 2) for chafing, bare wires causing a short to power, or broken wires causing an open circuit.
Examine the electrical connectors on both the sensor side and the machine harness side for bent pins, corrosion, or moisture ingress that could bridge voltage.
Perform a circuit and harness test using a multimeter to verify the supply voltage to the sensor and check for continuity between the sensor connector and the PTA/TCU module connector.
Check for related diagnostic codes, such as 523917.04 (Voltage Too Low) or 523700.07 (Speed Sensor Mismatch), to help isolate whether the issue is purely electrical or if the sensor has failed internally.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes during repair.
Locate the Sensor
Locate the B62 Hydrostatic Speed Sensor on the IVT transmission housing.
Disconnect
Unplug the electrical connector from the sensor.
Remove the Faulty Sensor
Unbolt and carefully remove the old hydrostatic speed sensor from the transmission port. Be prepared with a catch pan, as a small amount of transmission fluid may weep from the port.
Install the New Sensor
Lubricate the O-ring on the new sensor with clean transmission fluid. Insert the new sensor (Kit AL181015) into the port and tighten the mounting hardware to OEM torque specifications.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical connector back into the sensor, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place.
Test
Reconnect the battery. Start the tractor, clear the stored PTA/TCU fault codes using a diagnostic tool, and perform a test drive to ensure the transmission shifts smoothly and the code does not return.
