John Deere 523925.09 – XSC (Steering System Control Unit / AutoTrac™ Control Software): Incorrect CAN BUS Message, Information from XMC Control Software
Issue description
Indicates a data transfer problem between the XMC control software and the XSC control software. The issue is triggered by the intermittent or non-existent reception of one or more CAN messages expected by the XMC control software, which is typically caused by a loose wire, damaged harness, or other CAN BUS network issues.

Check the cause
Inspect the CAN BUS Network: Check the wiring harness connecting the XMC and XSC control modules for any loose wires, chafing, or physical damage.
Check Electrical Connections: Inspect the connectors at both the XSC and XMC modules for corrosion, moisture, or loose pins.
Verify System Voltage: Measure the battery voltage and verify the charging system. Low supply voltage (dropping below 11 volts) can cause the AutoTrac™ modules to drop off the CAN BUS network and fail to transmit messages.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during inspection.
Harness Repair
Locate the XSC and XMC control modules. If any damaged CAN BUS wiring or loose connections were found during the diagnostic checks, repair the wiring harness or replace the damaged connector pins.
Clean Connections
Clean all electrical connections with contact cleaner and ensure they are securely seated.
Power Up & Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, turn the key on, and use a John Deere diagnostic tool to clear the 523925.09 fault code.
Test the System
Engage the AutoTrac™ system to verify if the steering functions correctly.
Software/Module Replacement
If the wiring is perfectly intact and the fault code returns immediately, the XSC or XMC module may be suffering from an internal fault. The module will need to be reprogrammed with the latest software by a dealer, or physically replaced and calibrated.
