Issue description

The controller detects a low amp draw in the solenoid valve circuit responsible for lowering the suspended front-wheel drive axle or cab suspension. This is typically caused by an open circuit, a disconnected plug, or a short to ground on either the high or low side of the drive circuit. The suspension system may fail to raise or lower, leading to a rigid ride, potential handling issues, and the suspension becoming non-adjustable.

Check the cause

  1. Restart the engine to verify if the active Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) reappears, as resetting communication messages may clear it.

  2. Visually check the wiring harness and connectors leading to the suspension down/lower solenoid (often designated as valve Y66 in TLS systems) for signs of damage, corrosion, or disconnection.

  3. Ensure the valve is receiving the correct power supply by checking the specific fuse and relay associated with the SFA/CSC circuit (verify battery/alternator supply voltage is not dropping below 9.5V).

  4. Use a multimeter to inspect the circuit for any shorts to ground on both the high and low sides of the drive circuit.

  5. Ohm-test the suspension lower solenoid valve to ensure the internal coil is not open.

Repair steps

  1. Secure the Machine

    Park the machine on level ground, engage the park brake, and ensure the suspension is physically supported or depressurized if you are removing hydraulic components.

  2. Repair Wiring

    If the diagnostic checks revealed chafed wires or corroded pins at the solenoid connector, repair or replace the faulty wiring/connector pigtail.

  3. Replace the Solenoid

    If the wiring is intact but the solenoid coil fails the resistance test (open circuit), remove the retaining nut on the solenoid valve block and slide the old coil off the valve cartridge. Install the new solenoid coil and torque the retaining nut to spec.

  4. Clear Debris

    Clean the Independent Link Suspension (ILS) or Triple-Link Suspension (TLS) manifold of any accumulated debris that may be causing localized grounding or heat issues.

  5. Test Operation

    Clear the active fault codes via the CommandCenter or service tool. Start the vehicle and operate it on rough terrain to force the suspension system to pressurize and adjust, verifying the code does not return.
