John Deere 523949.05 – SFA (Suspended Front Axle Control Unit) / CSC (Cab Suspension Controller): SFA Up Solenoid Low Amps

The control module is attempting to energize the solenoid valve responsible for raising the suspension, but it is detecting little to no electrical current (low amp draw) flowing through the circuit. This almost always indicates an open circuit—such as a disconnected plug, a broken/chafed wire in the harness, or a burned-out solenoid coil.

   Restart the engine to verify if the code is active or stored, as temporary communication glitches can trigger it.

   Inspect the wiring harness routing down to the front axle TLS valve block (or rear cab suspension block) for torn wires, chafing against the chassis, or debris buildup.

   Disconnect the 'Up/Raise' solenoid connector and check for moisture, corrosion, or pushed-out pins.

   Using a multimeter, measure the resistance across the two pins of the solenoid coil. An infinite reading (OL) means the internal coil is broken (open) and must be replaced.

   If the coil tests good, check for continuity on the wiring harness between the solenoid connector and the SFA/CSC module to isolate a broken wire.

   Safety First

   Park the machine on level ground, lower any attachments, turn off the engine, and relieve hydraulic pressure. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

   Locate the Valve

   Locate the suspension control valve block (typically mounted near the front axle for TLS, or at the rear of the cab for CSC).

   Remove the Coil

   Disconnect the electrical harness from the faulty 'Up' solenoid. Remove the retaining nut at the top of the solenoid stem.

   Replace the Coil

   Slide the old electromagnetic coil off the hydraulic valve cartridge. (You usually do not need to open the hydraulic system or remove the cartridge valve itself just to replace the coil).

   Install

   Slide the new coil onto the stem, install the retaining nut, and torque to OEM specifications.

   Wiring Repair (If applicable)

   If the coil was fine but the harness was broken, cut out the damaged wire section and repair it using OEM-approved environmental splices and heat-shrink tubing.

   Test

   Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and clear the stored fault codes. Cycle the suspension through its raise and lower limits to ensure the code does not return.
