John Deere 523949.06 – CSC: High Amp Draw At Cab Suspension Raise Solenoid

Issue description

The control software has detected that the electrical current in the circuit of the solenoid valve responsible for raising the cab suspension is too high. This condition typically points to a short to ground in the circuit, which can lead to improper operation or damage to the solenoid valve and its associated systems. To prevent further damage, the control software may restrict or completely disable the cab suspension functionality.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the cab suspension raise solenoid for any signs of a short to ground, damaged, chafed, or exposed wires

  2. Use a digital multimeter to measure the current in the solenoid valve circuit to verify if it is exceeding the acceptable range

  3. Check the solenoid valve for internal electrical shorts or mechanical defects that could cause excessive current draw

  4. Verify the control software and system settings are correctly configured to manage the solenoid valve's current requirements

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes during repair.

  2. Repair Wiring

If the visual inspection revealed chafed or exposed wires causing a short to ground, repair or replace the affected section of the wiring harness.

  3. Replace Solenoid

If the wiring is intact but the solenoid valve failed the multimeter test (internal short), remove and replace the faulty cab suspension raise solenoid valve.

  4. Reassemble and Power Up

Reconnect the solenoid and restore battery power.

  5. Clear Codes and Test

Reset the system to clear the active diagnostic trouble code. Perform comprehensive system tests (including a cab suspension calibration if required by the service manual) to confirm that the solenoid valve operates correctly under normal current conditions and the code does not return.
