John Deere 523951.13 – TSC: SFA Not Calibrated Or Out Of Calibrated Range
Issue description
This diagnostic trouble code indicates that the Suspended Front-Wheel Drive Axle (SFA), also known as the TLS (Triple-Link Suspension) front-wheel drive axle, has an invalid calibration or failed during the calibration process.

Check the cause
Verify operating conditions: Ensure the tractor is completely stationary and engine speed is above 500 rpm before attempting calibration
Check the output voltage of the TLS Position Sensor (B53) (must read between 2 and 3 volts when in the mid/level position)
Check the signal output of the TLS Oil Pressure Sensor (B167) to ensure it is within the expected range and not dropping during pressure buildup
Inspect the wiring harnesses and connectors for sensors B53 and B167 for damage, corrosion, or loose connections
Inspect the hydraulic circuit for blockages, leaks, or pressure issues preventing the axle from reaching standard pressure within 90 seconds
Test the operation and circuits of the raising/lowering and pressure buildup/reduction solenoid valves
Repair steps
Resolve Pre-conditions
Clear any active CAN BUS faults related to wheel speed or engine speed, and ensure the tractor is not excessively ballasted.
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic checks reveal a circuit issue, repair or replace the damaged wiring harness sections leading to the B53 or B167 sensors.
Replace Faulty Components
If wiring is intact but sensor voltages are out of range (e.g., position sensor fails to hit 0.5-1.5V when rising or 3.5-4.5V when lowering), replace the faulty TLS Position Sensor (B53) or TLS Oil Pressure Sensor (B167). If the axle fails to move or build pressure, replace the faulty solenoid valve(s).
Recalibrate
Once repairs are made, use the John Deere diagnostic tool to initiate the SFA/TLS calibration procedure. The system must successfully complete this automated routine to clear the 523951.13 code.
