Issue description
The control unit is receiving conflicting voltage readings from the dual-channel sensors (Channel 1 and Channel 2) inside the Forward/Reverse (shuttle) lever or the transmission speed control lever. Because the module cannot reliably determine whether the operator is requesting Forward, Reverse, or a specific speed band, it triggers this code. As a safety precaution, the transmission will typically default to Neutral or command the tractor to shift to Park to prevent unintended movement.

Check the cause
Check for accompanying codes (e.g., 523953.03 for High Voltage or 523953.04 for Low Voltage) to isolate the issue to a specific sensor channel
Cycle the power by placing the tractor in Park, shutting off the engine, and restarting it to clear potential temporary communication glitches
Inspect the Forward/Reverse shuttle lever and the CommandARM speed control lever for physical damage, sticking, or debris preventing full range of motion
Inspect the wiring harness connections at the base of the lever for loose pins, corrosion, or chafing that could cause electrical noise or false readings
Measure the voltage outputs from both sensor channels using a multimeter or John Deere Service ADVISOR to verify they operate in the expected inverse ratio

Secure the Machine
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the Park lock, and turn off the ignition.
Access the Sensor
Depending on which lever is throwing the conflict (Left-Hand Reverser vs. CommandARM Speed Lever), remove the plastic cowling around the steering column or the armrest console to expose the lever assembly and its wiring harness.
Clean and Reconnect
Disconnect the sensor harness. Clean the contacts with an approved electrical contact cleaner, ensure the pins are straight, and securely reconnect the harness.
Recalibrate the Sensor
If the hardware and wiring check out, the sensor may simply be out of calibration. Use the tractor's CommandCenter display or John Deere Service ADVISOR to run the lever calibration procedure. Follow the on-screen prompts to move the lever through its full Forward, Neutral, and Reverse (or speed band) positions.
Replace the Component
If recalibration fails or the voltage conflict persists, the internal potentiometers/sensors are faulty. The sensors are typically integrated into the lever assembly, requiring replacement of the entire Forward/Reverse lever or Speed Control joystick.
Final Testing
After replacing the part, clear the stored fault codes. Start the tractor and test the forward/reverse transitions and speed bands in a safe, open area to ensure the transmission engages smoothly without defaulting to Neutral.
